THE KELP FORESTS ON THE BEAGLE CHANNEL

Season: October to April

Program: 3 days-2 nights

Day 1: Arrival at the local airport and transfer to the hotel. Half day walking tour in the Beagle Channel area to see wild seabirds and mollusks. Departure will depend on the low tide time, since low tide permits the observation of a large variety of mollusks. The dinner is not included. Overnight stay in Ushuaia.

Birds: Rock Cormorant, Imperial Cormorant, Flightless Steamer-Duck, Flying Steamer-Duck, Magellanic Oystercatcher, Blackish Oystercatcher, Chilean Skua, Dolphin Gull, Kelp Gull, South American Tern, Dark-Bellied Cinclodes, etc.

Mollusks: Patagonian scallop, Common mussel, Little ribbed mussel, Large mussel, Kelp scallops, Mactra surf clam, Giant Argentinian jackknife clams, Small clam, Venus clam, King’s rayed venus clam, Keyhole limpet, Limpet, Top shell, Cup-and-saucer, moon snail, Rock- shell, Whelk, Dogwhelk, Ancilla volute, Quiton, etc.

Day 2: Ushuaia. Breakfast. Full day tour to the Harberton Ranch driving along the glacial valleys of the mountainous southern area of Tierra del Fuego. In Harberton, a visit to the ACATUSHUN BONE MUSEUM will offer an interesting exhibit of marine bird skeletons and mammals of the South Atlantic Ocean. A lunch box at the Ranch is included.

In the afternoon: Cruise along the Beagle Channel up to the Magellanic Penguin colony at Isla Martillo. Return to Ushuaia. The dinner is not included. Total number of kilometers for this day: 90 km.

Birds: Gentoo Penguin, Magellanic Penguin, Black-browed Albatross, Southern Giant Petrel, Southern Fulmar, Magellanic Diving-Petrel, Common Diving-Petrel, Rock Cormorant, Imperial, Flightless Steamer-Duck, Flying Steamer-Duck, Magellanic Oystercatcher, Blackish Oystercatcher, Great Skua, Dolphin Gull, Kelp Gull, South American Tern, Dark-Bellied Cinclodes, etc.

Day 3: Breakfast. Transfer to the local airport. End of our services.
